Fishing by Faith

“And when he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, "Put out into the deep and let down your nets for a catch." And Simon answered, "Master, we toiled all night and took nothing! But at your word I will let down the nets."” Luke 5:4-5 ESV

After a night of fruitless toil on the lake Peter was exhausted and discouraged. His beloved teacher's popularity was quickly fading and weighing heaviest on his heart was Jesus recent rejection by Israel's religious leadership.

Jesus read the discouraged hearts of his disciples that morning by the sea, by asking Peter to cast out his net one more time Jesus was challenging him not to lose faith. Believing in Jesus as the Messiah that morning felt as futile as fishing in broad daylight. In spite of his discouragement Peter chose to obey his master's command.

Find out how the story ends in Luke chapter 5 and discover the sure results of trusting and obeying regardless of what one's circumstance may look like.

Still Seeking His Face,
Pastor Andrew
