Everlasting Love

“the Lord appeared to him from far away. I have loved you with an everlasting love; therefore I have continued my faithfulness to you.”

Jeremiah 31:3 ESV

What are the ties that bind us to the Christian journey? What fuels our ascent up the straight and narrow path? What inspires us to press beyond a cultural association with Jesus and into a genuine warfare against selfishness? What makes Christianity worth it when it hurts?

The degree we honestly engage our faith is directly proportional to the benefit we derive from it. The emptiness of cultural Christianity will prevail until we encounter God on a personal level. When we encounter God personally and pursue him by faith our connection to heaven develops a sustaining power. It is not that we ever lose our freedom to return to attempting self-satisfaction. Simply put, God when discovered proves himself. Knowing his love makes every challenge we encounter on the journey infinitely worth it.

If your journey is still defined by cultural norms rather than a vital connection, do not give up. The treasure of God's love will be found by every honest seeker. As we come into a knowledge of who God is and how he loves us  the impossible becomes possible. This discovery always follows our choice to believe God's self-revelation. This is faith and it is how we give God permission to make himself known. Until we begin experiencing God's love personally our Christianity will continue to be a positive injury, a cultural safety blanket, or at best an irrelevant abstraction.

Your Heavenly Father is real, and he really loves you. He is everything you desire and so much more. No one can force you to believe this, but neither can anyone rob you of the freedom to believe it if you choose. Choose to believe it...and keep choosing to, in this way you will come to experience love beyond your wildest dreams.

Still Seeking His Face,

Pastor Andrew
