Eyes on a Better Land

“Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more. And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, "Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God. He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away."”

Revelation 21:1-4 ESV

Heaven's peace and joy begin the moment we accept God's free gift of eternal life by faith and begin walking with our Heavenly Father. But the sweet communion now available to us is but a foretaste of what lies ahead. Meditate upon the passage above. Read it over and over until you can recall it to mind through-out the day. Use the imagination God has given you to wrap your hope around the better life which awaits us.

The more real heaven becomes and the more time we invest dreaming of that better land, the less power this world will have over us. Looking up in this way allows our hope to endure the various trials we must face this side of eternity. Passages such as the one above help us remember why our choice to trust Jesus with our lives is the right one.

Still Seeking His Face,

Pastor Andrew
