God's Mysterious Work

“...The LORD does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.””

1 Samuel 16:7 NIV

Some of God's ways are exceedingly difficult for us to understand. God operates in the realm of the unseen working first and foremost upon the hearts of men. Our Heavenly Father's aim has always been to win hearts through an honest manifestation of his love.

The work of the Holy Spirit toward this end is mysterious and difficult to track in a linear way. Sometimes what we perceive as a personal set back in our journey may actually be serving God's purposes for our eternal good. External failures often open the door for internal victories.

The freewill surrender of the human heart is an incredibly complicated process. All of God's love, power, and wisdom are fully stretched toward this end yet his combined powers are never coercive and refuse to force a single human will. When we open the door of our heart by faith to the divine physician he goes to work immediately but the fruit of his labor is not always immediately evident.

Walking by faith with our Lord takes patience on both ends of the equation. If you are struggling to believe God is really at work, hang in there and in due time you will have no regrets.

Still Seeking His Face,

Pastor Andrew
