Justice Will Prevail

“And the heavens proclaim his righteousness, for he is a God of justice.”

Psalm 50:6 NIV

What is it that motivates God to bring evil to an end? The very same thing that motivates him to redeem those who accept his free gift of life; love. God is not chomping at the bit to punish evil. The bowls of his wrath which are poured out upon the earth at the end are not repositories of his mounting rage. Most of Christendom does not rightly grasp the nature of God's vengeance against sin.

A fundamental ingredient of genuine love is freedom. God allows each of us to choose our own path. The wages of sin is death and yet God offers us the gift of eternal life. God has paid the wages of our sin in full, but if we refuse his sacrifice on our behalf we are left to answer for our sin ourselves.

The bowls of God's wrath do not represent the mounting of divine rage but rather the just consequences of sin. God is not the vindictive torturer the enemy would have us believe. Men and angels will meet the full consequences of their sin, no more, no less. God simply returns upon evil the exact price it has measured out.

The bowls simply reflect that God has been withholding the final consequence of evil until the work of redemption is complete. God is not willing that any perish, but he does not force salvation. In the end, we will all receive the full reward of either Christ's righteousness or our own sin.

Still Seeking His Face,
