Spiritual Gifts 1

“Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow

There is a lot I don't understand about spiritual gifts. Quite frankly I currently have more questions than answers. One thing I do get is that God has made available to us precious supernatural manifestations of his grace. I also know that Jesus made these gifts available to us when he ascended on high, however, the disciples did not receive them except through a sincere, faith inspired conversation with him.

Everything good we receive from God we receive though relationship. Spiritual gifts are not independent super-powers we are given to accomplish God's bidding. They are gifts that require an intimate connection and personal relationship with God to be experienced. They are gifts that we are called not to use for God, but alongside and with God for the encouragement of our friends, family, neighbors, and coworkers.

While we earnestly seek God to reveal our gifts and our calling, let's remember that he will answer this prayer through the intimacy of his friendship with us. God does not send our gifts by freight, Fed X, or UPS. God hand delivers all of his gifts in person. If we aren't engaging him in friendship (dialogue, trust, mutuality etc...) we aren't engaging our calling or our gifts.

Still Seeking His Face,

Pastor Andrew
