The Fear of The Lord

“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is insight.”

Proverbs 9:10 ESV

What does it mean to fear the Lord? In Luke 8 Jesus and his disciples are caught in a terrible storm. Fearing for their lives the disciples turn to Jesus and cry out, "Master, we are perishing!" Rising up Jesus calms the storm leaving the disciples speechless and in fear. There is a sharp contrast, however, between the fear the disciples experienced in the storm and that which now holds them fast. The former was a fear based on the lie that their lives were at the mercy of their circumstance. The fear which now confronts them is the revelation that nature itself bows at their masters command.

Beholding the awesome power of God has a way of placing what we fear into perspective. Spend some time today in God's word and allow him to speak a calm into your own storm.

Still Seeking His Face,

Pastor Andrew
